10-11 Allstars: Colchester 10, Williston 7

July 19th, 2009

Andrew at the plate

In a nail-biting battle, Colchester came back from a shaky 0-5 start to win 10-7 against Williston today in the District 1 Allstars pool-play.

Nate Carp pitched the first five innings for Colchester, taking a few innings to find his form, but finishing strong with a pair of 9-pitch innings.

Andrew shut the door on Williston at the top of the 6th, pitching two strikeouts before closing the game with a tag out at first.

Hits of the day: Andrew Sears slugged an (almost) monster 3-base-hit, scoring 2 RBI’s before being called out at 3rd for dropping his helmet.  Brett Kryznski hit a solid double on a full count pitch.  Opening batter Dakota Navari wowed us with another fantastic bunt and dash to first.

Colchester are now 2-1 for the season.  Next game Monday vs. South Burlington.  GO GREEN!

Colchester scored an exciting victory against Charlotte on Friday to win their second pool-play game 10-5.  The score belied a close back-and-forth game - six of Colchester’s runs coming in a slugfest at the bottom of the 5th inning.

That leaves both teams 1-1 for the season.

Next game for Colchester - Sunday 1pm vs Williston @ Schifilliti field.  Good luck boys!

Despite a gutsy fight, Colchester 10-11 Allstars couldn’t quite get the better of a strong Shelburne team, losing 5-4 in their first game of the season.

Andrew threw 102 pitches over two days, scoring 13 strike-outs for Colchester in 5 2/3 innings.

Next up, Charlotte on Friday, July 17.  GO GREEN!

He finished in 2nd place with a time of 13:40, easily attaining his 15:00 personal goal, and demolishing his 15:18 time from last year.

We are so proud of him.  What a champ!

Bach Oratorio in Burlington

December 13th, 2008

Last night we went to see the Vermont Mozart Bach Oratorio at the beautiful Congregational Church on South Winooski Avenue in Burlington.

Words cannot describe how wonderful it was!  William Metcalfe conducted the Oriana singers and members of the VMF Orchestra through Bach’s Cantatas IV, V and VI.  John Tiranno treated us to a sensational tenor performance, and Gary Moreau’s baritone was simply stunning.  The VMF did not disappoint either, with aurally audacious performances from Adam Grabois on cello, and Melvin Kaplan on oboe.

If you haven’t been to see any of the VT Mozart events yet, I highly recommend you check them out.  We’re looking forward to attending many more this summer.

Church Street Christmas Lights

December 11th, 2008

DSCF0864.JPG

We took a little stroll down Church Street tonight and snapped these photos of the Christmas lights.

We also stopped in at Uncommon Grounds and had a nice cup of joe.  Ok ok, it wasn’t on a par with GMCR’s brews, but still pretty good.  I had an Espresso Breve - a latte, made with half-n-half instead of milk.

They had the Probat roaster going while we were there, so we were treated to some yummy aromas too.  We stayed ’til they kicked us out at 9pm.

Ooo, I have another item for my Christmas wish-list.  This little beauty from Bodum:

Annoyingly dorky cyborg people…

December 10th, 2008

We’ve all seen them - in hotel lobbies, elevators, restaurants, grocery stores and even public restrooms.  The proliferation of this awkward species over the past five years has been rapid enough to cause me to question my long-held belief in Darwinian natural selection.

Of course, I’m talking about annoyingly dorky cyborg people… or, folks that wear Bluetooth headsets in public.

I’m usually fairly quick to adopt new technologies where it makes sense, even if it means looking like a dork - and, trust me, I am no stranger to that.  But for me, so far, this auricle-adornment fad has gone in one ear and out the other.

Well, that could just be about to change.

Enter the Jawbone II, from ALIPH.  At a diminutive 0.5″x1″x2″, this little beauty is more reminiscent of a fashionable piece of ear jewelry than a hi-tech wireless device.

Remember the 6 Million Dollar Man’s left eye?  In terms of man-machine integration, this miniature meld of medical-grade plastic, silicon integrated circuits and top-grain hand-stitched leather is about as close as it gets.

And yes, ladies, it even comes in pink.

I for one, will be adding the blue variant of this mini marvel to my Amazon.com wish-list this year.  And at just $129.99 a pop, I might just ask for two.

Snowboarding at Bolton Valley!

December 6th, 2008

A strange man we met on the quad lift.Andy and I made our first trip of the season to Bolton Valley today for a fun-filled day of snowboarding.

Conditions were absolutely perfect: 25F, calm, and plenty of snow on the upper slopes.  Bolton’s Mid Mountain & Vista Quad lifts worked tirelessly all day to service thousands of happy skiers and riders.  It was great to see so many people there.

Our favorite trail today was the blue trail at the top of the Vista Quad - Alta Vista.  Absolutely breathtaking!

Ok, it’s time to BLOG!

November 30th, 2008

Best buddies!

Well folks, after just over 14 years working in Internet technologies, I decided it’s finally time to start a blog of my own.  So here it is!

In fact, this is my very first ever blog post…

So, hi, I’m Jonathan Lynch.  That’s a picture of me with my 10-year-old son, Andrew, camping this year in Grand Isle, VT, USA.

We live in Malletts Bay - a wonderful little area in the town of Colchester in northern Vermont, USA.

I’ll primarily be using this blog to share life events with faraway family and friends, but I also reserve the right to randomly muse over some of my favorite topics: technology, science, politics, religion, food and - of course - wine, women and song!

Oh, I’m using Picasa for my photos.  Whenever you see a picture, you should be able to click on it to get to the full album.
